Une figure emblématique Ecossaise : William Wallace

Aujourd’hui, je vais vous présenter un personnage historique Écossais. Qui de plus courageux que le chevalier William Wallace ? 

Né en 1272 à Elderslie, et surnommé « William Braveheart Wallace » (cœur vaillant), William Wallace eut un grand impact sur l’histoire de l’Écosse. 

En effet, sa bravoure permit aux Écossais d’ouvrir les yeux sur la situation de leur pays, et de se révolter contre le roi d’Angleterre afin d’obtenir leur indépendance. 

Tout commence en 1297, le jour où William Wallace assassine le shérif anglais de Lanark afin de venger celle qu’il aime, elle-même tuée sous les yeux de William par ce shérif. Suite à cela, il s’enfuit et est condamné hors la loi, mais certains de ses compagnons ne l’abandonnent pas et s'enfuient avec lui. William décide alors de massacrer la garnison anglaise de Lanark : c’est le début de la rébellion. 

Il est soutenu par plusieurs seigneurs d’Écosse, qui l’aident à former une armée, moins nombreuse que celle des anglais, mais qui permet tout de même aux Écossais de remporter de loin la victoire. William Wallace est alors appelé « le gardien du royaume d’Écosse ». Son armée se déplace dans les régions du pays, Édouard I^er (roi d'Angleterre) décide alors d’intervenir lui-même, en personne.

En 1305, William Wallace se fait capturé et est envoyé à Londres où il est condamné et exécuté pour haute trahison. Les Écossais, révoltés par cet acte et se sentant plus unis que jamais, se battront pour leur indépendance, qu’ils obtiendront en 1328 grâce à 
Robert Bruce et John Comyn qui ont succédé William Wallace).

Let me tell you the story of the bravest man that Scotland has ever known : William Wallace.

Born in 1272 in Elderslie, and whose surname was "William Braveheart Wallace", William Wallace had a big impact on the history of his country, Scotland.

Indeed, his bravery allowed the Scots to open their eyes on the situation of their country, to rebel against the king of England (Edward I of England) to gain their independence.

The story begins in 1297, 
the day William Wallace murdered the English Sheriff of Lanark to revenge the woman he loved, who was murdered by this Sheriff.

After that, he ran away, and was sentenced outlaw, but some of his companions did not give him up and followed. William decided to massacre the English garrison of Lanark: this is the beginning of the rebellion. 

He was supported by several lords of Scotland, who helped him to form  

an army, smaller than the one of the English, but that will still allow the Scots to victory.

 William Wallace was then called "the Guardian of the Kingdom of Scotland."  

His army moved in parts of Scotland, and Edward I decided to intervene himself, 

no longer supporting the circumstances. 

 In 1305, William Wallace is captured, and sent to London, 

where he is judged and  condemned and executed for high treason.

The Scots, outraged by this act and feeling more united than ever, will fight for their independence, which they get in 1328.
